CEO Meets Homeschool with Timea Parker
Episode 77: 10x jump Exec Admin Dan Martell
Welcome to CEO Meets Homeschool. My name is Tamiya Parker, and I am both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 77. So this is probably getting posted right before Christmas. So Merry Christmas. I hope everyone is ready. And finding time to slow down and appreciate the reason for the season. I thought I would start with sharing what a conversation with my husband and myself is like. When we were able to go to Italy, Amalfi, Italy. I remember he would, kind of on a regular basis, he'd say, did you see this or did you see that? Usually my answer was like, nope. And so he started giving me a really hard time. Cause we'll sit, we went to like a restaurant one time and he goes, did you notice everyone here has like green hair? And I was like, Oh, I hadn't noticed. Or he'll say like, just kind of like things that typically you would be noticing. And so he started giving me a hard time. And I think this is tied with my, Introverted personality. I'm like, in my mind, while he's noticing everyone who works at some restaurant all have green hair or whatever, I'm thinking about buying a mobile park, a mobile home park. So that just shows a little bit about our personalities and we kind of give each other a hard time. And so on the flip side, I will have a conversation. So I'm going to talk about Dan Martell. He's on social media. He's a pretty interesting entrepreneur. He's his main business is in the software background, but I, some of my business coaching has made a large emphasis in, you know, appreciating people, send them a note, send them a DM, you know, making connections with people. And I love that because even though I'm an introvert, relationships are really important. So over the course of, I don't know, maybe the last year, year and a half, Dan Martell on Instagram, and I have messaged back and forth and I will go to my husband. I'm like, Oh, Dan Martell is using AI. And my husband will be like, Oh, I don't think so. Most of those people answer it. And, and I am like, I'm I know AI has its place, but I also think AI can wreck relationships because if people are using it constantly to reply to people, so I kind of, I'm a bit obsessed with like, just kind of trying to figure it out. And so I, I would say, Oh, no, to my husband, I'm pretty sure he's using AI. And I, I will, I ended up replying to Dan Martell, like, Oh, are you using AI? Cause I'm like, I have to figure this out. And so I, just before I got on this podcast was looking to see how many times Dan Martell has told me he's not using AI and it was at least three times. So it's super funny, but. In one of my kind of groups that I'm part of, the speaker had said, Dan Martell is one of the best chat, chatting people, DM people on Instagram. And he uses what's called many chats. And in my opinion, that falls under the umbrella of AI. So when I heard that, I was like, I knew it. And so I had with my conversations with Dan Martell, just through DM. at one point he goes, let me see if I can find it. Okay. Okay. His reply, sorry, I'm kind of nerding out here. He had replied a clear roadmap for sure, anything else? And so then I replied, I didn't actually send you a response, but you told me that I gave you a clear roadmap. And I was kind of like, I knew it it's AI. And so it's kind of been this, Banter back and forth, but I just share that with my conversations. Yes. I will probably go if I go out to eat with you guys. I will not notice certain external details, but there's other details that I pay attention to. And it's just that's the, the beauty of relationships and just kind of. When I think of conversations with my husband, how we, we each strengthen each other in our own way, but this ties into Dan Martell. I'll say something more positive, but I just thought that was kind of a funny story where there's a lot of softwares nowadays that yes, it will help your business, but not. My thing is, I don't want to lose the importance of genuine relationships because there's these tools out there. So, I don't know the solution. And I did have some interesting conversations through DM with Dan Martell, but there's just, there seems to be like a gap. And obviously, like, people are trying to perfect it. But the problem is, I don't really want to have conversations with AI. I want to have genuine conversations with people. people. So, but Dan Martell, he's a big proponent on time management. And one of Dan Martell's big emphasis is one of the first things you should do is hire an executive admin. So this is where I'm going to jump into my 10x, one of the 10x jumps. So as I was learning to have kind of, I'll recap real quick on some of the prior episodes where I've talked about 10x jumps. And then I mentioned In the previous one, where I started adding staff to help with the services we provided through my bookkeeping CFO firm. And I've really been learning over the years, you hire people smarter than you, but the new shift is like the next step. Dan talks a lot about an executive admin. There's certain things that you should not be spending your time on because. We only have such a limited amount of time. So you figure out what your unique ability is and you focus exclusively on that. It's definitely a learning journey, but the next 10 X jump for me was I did hire an executive admin. And it's really difficult for me and my personality to, to actually just carry the title of a boss or to tell people what to do, and I've definitely grown and gotten better at it. But by also hiring executive admin, that was difficult. It was kind of having to cross into a next level for me. So I'd say this process, not only did it obviously take some things off of my plate, it allowed me to have buffers where I wasn't dealing with as many people, which is really great. If you are an entrepreneur or CEO, there's sometimes you get just. You can get drained by answering too many questions and dealing with too many people. So this helped, but I would say it has actually helped me grow in quite a significant way by learning to delegate better. So, there's some leadership that it helps. So that was my 10 X jump and I have Dan Martell to thank for that in regards to there's after a while, you start hearing a lot of personal development folks saying the same thing, but he definitely pushes that. And I think it's, it's absolutely, I agree that it's a next step. You want to buy back your time so that you can focus on the things that you're the strongest at and continue leading your company. I hope y'all have a Merry Christmas.
