Episode 87: Are you being challenged?

Timea Parker Season 2 Episode 87
Timea:

Welcome to season two of CEO Meets Homeschool. My name is Tamiya Parker, and I am both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 87. I wanted to give you guys an update. I mentioned a few podcasts ago how we had to take a step of faith when I When we came to Montana, the boys were all plugged into a really incredible orchestra, a youth orchestra, all different levels. And I didn't want to lose the music that they had started with. And I mentioned, I was recommended, there's a master violinist here. Who runs the community college as well. And we finally got to meet with them and guess what? So we met with this master violinist and there is a orchestra that he organizes that's by invitation only. And he invited myself and my four younger kiddos to join this orchestra. And it was such a privilege and I'm not making any promises. We might get kicked out. Cause I honestly don't think he knows our skill level, but I'm so thrilled, you know, for the invite. And then he also. said he sees that he can help my oldest who's pretty talented and I actually love how he mentioned it. He didn't say I, I see potential or he didn't say anything that he thought he was good. He says, I think I can help you. And I thought that was such a great way to approach it. So my oldest is taking lessons from this master violinist and I'm looking forward to see what kind of opportunity that this will bring him. But let me share with you. We've only been to the orchestra one time so far, and he completely does things different. It's very refreshing. We're totally intimidated and terrified, but I was given some pretty intense music, some sheet music put in front of me, and he goes, this music should challenge you and scare you. He said, you should not stay in your comfort zone. And basically he goes on to say, like, so will you rise to the occasion? Are you going to conquer the music or will you, the music notes conquer you? And I was like, this is crazy. I've never been taught this type of thing with music. And this evening, before I started podcast, I, I broke out the sheet music. There's one of the songs is Hungarian dance number six by Brahms. And then there's another one. It's the swan. And. It is super hard. I don't know if this is some of the most difficult music I've ever been given, but I started playing it. I started following it on the sheet music, and I was like, I don't want this music to conquer me. So I just, I got lost in it, and I had a It was a ton of fun because of the challenge that was given. And I really hope my kiddos will feel the same. They get to work at their own pace, but it was such a great experience. And this is a good example of one of the things that I say yes to. I really want us as a family to have music together. It's part of our homeschool. I say no to a lot of stuff. And in fact, my son got invited. Well, I also, we got invited to a second orchestra. And I knew I could only commit to one. And the funny thing is, is I don't know that we're very good. So I feel a little bit like I feel honored to be invited to join these orchestras, but I told them, I said, I, I really can't commit. I know my time limits, but my, my oldest might be able to join in. So kind of an exciting turn of events. We had to leave Texas and the music programs there, but fun opportunities are opening up here. So have a great day, everybody.
