CEO Meets Homeschool with Timea Parker
Episode 104: Are you Unemployable
Welcome to season two of CEO Meets Homeschool. My name is Timea Parker, and I'm both a CEO and homeschool mom to my four boys. Welcome to episode 104. Recently I heard someone talk about that they were unemployable, and I really enjoyed their breakdown of it. They had been a business owner entrepreneur for about 40 years, I think he said. And it just really makes you think about when you have owned your own company, you've set your own schedule, you've created things and built things, and you weren't following someone else's template. There is so much truth to that you suddenly, you're not fitting into a box that you would typically fit into as a employee. So I've been really thinking about that. I have, um, owned my company. I'd say I'm in about 22 years now, and so I. Over two decades, which is crazy. And when I share my story, sometimes people will say like, you have the knowledge and the the backup to really support like what you're talking about. It's not just something that I started and I haven't followed through on it. And I was like, oh, that's cool. Like. I am forever changed because I've done this for this long, so I would technically probably fall into the I am unemployable category, and I, I say that with a smile on my face because I'm. Grateful that I went the entrepreneur route and I was talking to another entrepreneur who was making some big choices and I said, well, you're essentially unemployable, so this term keeps cycling around. So I wanted to talk about it and just kind of give pause to think for those who are. Entrepreneurs, business owners, there's something beautiful about being unemployable. And so she was like, tell me what you mean by that. And I was just like, if you're a builder and a creator and you have experienced this and done this, you know there's a chance that you will want to do this for the rest of your life. You know, it's not a rule, but I did just wanna say, we get to choose now. On the flip side, I had a really cool conversation. Here's where this, my small podcast has been such a blessing and just me speaking up, not just on the podcast, but just kind of living out what I believe in, where my passions are. And obviously with the title of the podcast, CEO meets Homeschool. Homeschool is a huge part and I really do have a heart to help homeschool moms that are looking to. Create income, revenue. And I think there is a lot of, um, things that we can encourage homeschool moms to create boundaries as they look for jobs to protect their homeschool life. And so that's kind of a really important thing. And the other day somebody reached out to me who does homeschool? And who kind of knew that this was important to me and asked if she could talk to me about how to go about, you know, starting to work, but also not compromising the homeschool side. And I combine these two where I'm talking about being unemployable versus, um, say homeschool moms getting ready to work, enter the job force or whatnot. So some people. Just want a job. And that's totally okay. And other people want to be more where they're creating a building and there's that risky factor, and that's how they're wired. That's. I'm guessing you know that that's how I'm wired. And so sometimes when I'm talking to folks, I have to remind myself not everybody wants to do this, and that's a hundred percent okay. You wanna do the way, do things the way you're meant to, not what other people tell you you should do. And so this podcast was. Geared to the folks that wanna be builders and dreamers and technically may eventually wanna be called that they're unemployable because for decades they have gone and done things to create revenue that was not kind of a W2 position. So. I guess the question is, are you unemployable? Is that something you wanna have as a title of yours? Have a great day. I'm so glad that you joined me today. If you have found this helpful or just enjoyed following along, it would be a huge blessing to me if you like and subscribe to this podcast. Thanks so much.
